How to use the Strava segment generator

A Strava segment should be easy to recognize outdoors, have clean GPS data and avoid arbitrary start or finish points. Treat the ranking as technical filtering, not automatic publishing.

The strongest candidates usually have steady pace, useful length and a clear profile: sprint, flat fast section, climb, descent or longer training segment.

Before creating a segment, check

  • whether the start and finish are safe, unambiguous places
  • whether the GPX has no GPS spikes or stops inside the section
  • whether the segment duplicates an existing Strava segment

FAQ

Does this tool create a segment directly in Strava?

No. Strava's official API does not allow third-party apps to create public segments on a user's behalf. The tool helps you choose a section and prepare GPX for manual work in Strava.

Does analysis work without uploading GPX to a server?

Yes. GPX analysis runs locally in the browser, and demo data lets you review the same flow without your own file.

Which segments are worth choosing?

Choose sections that are readable outdoors, have good GPS quality, avoid unsafe starts and finishes, and preferably do not duplicate existing segments.
